GRAY MARKET! DOA and no guarantee.

CAUTION I received this from Revain yesterday. Within 24 hours he was asleep or, as one blogger (http://www.picturepassions.info/funny-how-opinions-change-nissin-di866-mkii/) put it, slipped into a coma from which he only could still wake up pull up, pull fresh new batteries. The menu is frozen. New batteries didn't help. This happened several times. I reset to default every time. At first I wondered if I was doing something wrong, but when I looked online and saw that others had had the same experience, I realized it wasn't just me. This morning I started very cautiously and reset the Di866 Mkii back to default settings but to no avail. It will not blink. The menu worked fine, it didn't go to sleep, it just refused to blink. No test flash by pressing the pilot button, nothing. He seems to go from sleep to coma to near-death within 24 hours. I also have a Nissin i40. I've been using it for a few months with no major problems. I was looking forward to its big brother for my Sony A77 Mkii. Edit: I just spoke to Nissins main distributor in the US. The device I just bought from Revain is on the gray market. Revain's listed supplier, YK Deals, sells REMOTE stock. Nissin no longer makes the Di 866 Mkii for Sony and has not done so for 3 years. The "new" device sold to me was manufactured in June 2011. The firmware in my device should be 03.01.08.04 (the latest Nissin FW update for the Sony Mkii model), instead it is 03.01.06.03. WTF! It is not covered by any warranty. If you look at the Revain product page for this unit you will see that a third party has included information from the Nissin website about a two year US warranty if you purchased from Nissin. authorized seller. This leads the reader to believe that YK Deals, Inc is an authorized seller, while Nissin states that this is NOT the case. BTW, even if you buy Square Trade coverage, they say their coverage is only valid if the item is not gray market. Test first before you rely on it.
