Like others who have reviewed this product, the belt slipped off the shaft as soon as I installed one of them and turned on the vacuum. I concluded that it wasn't because the belt was too tight, but because the plastic in the area of the brush roll where the belt was supposed to go was worn out. It's supposed to have a cap that keeps the strap from shifting from side to side (you can google pulley shortener to explain how that works). Rather than ordering a new brush, I re-sanded the plastic to create a rounded high point in the center where the belt would go. Wearing leather gloves, I grabbed the reel by its free-spinning end caps and pressed it against the belt sander to make it spin with friction. I then used my thumbs to force the brush to slow down (but not stop) to achieve an even grind. After rotating it one way and then the other to create a new crown, I put the strap back on the vacuum and was able to vacuum without further slipping.
