Latches hold lid securely. The box is stored with a flat handle. That's what depression is for. The grip rises just enough to be comfortable for a normal to medium sized hand. I use mine to store stamps and ink pads. I had to remove a small interior shelf. My art supplies are now kept in the corner instead of in the guest room. That's because of a chapter in the next book: Life Changes the Magic of Cleaning by Marie Kondo. This book is a reminder to save art supplies. If they don't fit in the designated corner, throw them away. So this hobby storage box is the right size for my collection.
