Review on Merrell Ontario 85 WTRPF Hiking Boot: Reliable Unisex-Child Footwear for Outdoor Adventures by Daniel Mandal

Really NOT waterproof

They fit well and give good ankle coverage but other reviews put me off that they aren't waterproof so I decided to test them out before letting the kids wear them on the trail. I used a garden hose to mimic a rain shower. The first drops were repelled by the fabric, but very soon the paper I put inside got wet, especially where the suede meets the mesh. I didn't even need much water from my artificial rain to get wet. They will never survive a real downpour or "survive" by stepping in a puddle. Too bad they look very breathable and therefore comfortable.

Pros
  • Non-marking outsole with M Select GRIP for superior traction
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.
