Review on πŸ”‹ Xantrex 815-2012 Inverter/Charger with Frees-Wave 2000W 12V and 100A True Sine by Clayton Jimenez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Quiet, seamless but requires disconnecting the battery.

Bought this Xantrex 815-2012 along with a new controller to replace the old RS-2000. I really like this new inverter - it's quiet and runs smoothly. Two important points: 1. With my old RS-2000 I found that these units can fail in the OPEN state if they fail. Due to the way my trailer is wired, if the inverter fails, everything on leg A of my AC panel goes offline. To avoid this in the future, I connected the AC input and output cables to/from the inverter in a separate junction box next to the inverter. If there is a fault in the future, I can just open the junction box and connect the AC power around the inverter, isolating it from the AC side of the system.2. The new 815-2012 doesn't "sleep" like my old RS-2000. This device is in standby mode but stays online when connected to batteries. The manufacturer claims that it uses very little power in standby mode, but I'd like to turn off the device completely during storage. To completely disable this device I had to install a battery disconnect switch between the battery pack and the inverter - something I had to have anyway. Keep in mind that for long term storage you will either need to disconnect the battery cables or install a switch. However, I would give this device 4 stars for its smooth and uninterrupted performance. I will recommend the purchase to a friend. Overall good product.
