Review on πŸ–₯️ Dell U2723QE UltraSharp USB C Monitor 75Hz: Enhanced Height Adjustment & USB Hub for Optimal Performance by Shawn Moran

upset. in my view

I switched from iMac 5k to laptop + external monitor. I bought it knowing it wouldn't be as good as the iMac's 5K screen, but I was hoping it would be a "close enough" replacement. Unfortunately this was not the case. I've heard people complain about non-native resolution scaling, but I didn't understand the issue until I bought it and saw it firsthand. Basically, in order for your UI (application windows, text, etc.) to appear at the same size you are used to seeing on a 27" iMac, the resolution needs to be scaled to a non-native/optimal size, but the resolution for this ( or any other) 4K 27 inch display. The curves that appear result in a slightly blurred overall picture. It's not bad for day-to-day tasks, but it's definitely a step down from the Retina iMac if you're using it professionally for graphic design and such. Build quality is mixed. The stand feels heavy and of good quality, but the panel is your typical brittle, crappy plastic that wobbles and creaks when the buttons are pressed. The cord management cutout on the bottom of the monitor looks nice...if you don't have cords. But because it routes everything to/through the front, you end up looking straight at all your cables instead of hiding them, which is just awful. Color quality is very close to iMac, but brightness is noticeably weaker. The brightness/backlighting was also uneven, with a very obvious dimming gradient effect along the bottom inch of the screen. Worst of all, within 3 hours of use, the entire screen backlight began pulsing dramatically. So I had to send mine back. So if you're using it as a second display or on a PC where resolution scaling isn't an issue, it has a good feature set and will likely suit you. as long as it doesn't break like mine. But if you're spoiled for the iMac 5K and hoping for a similar experience, this isn't the case.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • The viewing angle of the monitor is too narrow.
