I had a Sony WH-1000XM3 and I'll tell you it's quite a big improvement. The sound is better, period. I read a review that said if you have a WH-1000XM3 don't buy a WH-1000XM4. I couldn't agree more. These headphones are amazing. The bass has greatly improved - tighter and stronger. The mids seem clearer to me and the highs are more, which I like. I also like the features - stops the song when you take them off and when you speak the headphones stop playing the music and you can hear the surroundings. I will say that when using high noise reduction you can hear a hiss between songs. It doesn't bother me personally. I used to hiss - I grew up listening to cassettes - lol.
