Used for a dog guard and a wooden screen door. The gate was quite heavy, but the dogs were small. The adjustable tension allowed the gate to be set so that it didn't require much human effort to open and close, yet was strong enough that the dogs didn't push. The screen door was the same. There are two ways to set the tension. One is to screw in or out the barrel on the front of the firing pin to engage the groove of the ball on the side of the post. If that's not enough for you, there is a screwdriver slot on the back of the ball cylinder for tensioning the spring. Installation is easier than installing a door knob, only requires a drill and a drill. To achieve a finished look, a chisel is enough to create a shallow groove for strikers. The only drawback, in my opinion, is the locking plate screws that are included. They could be a bit longer, but should be sufficient for new installations.
