Good - not perfect - but workable

Overall I'm happy with this purchase, but to get the most out of this product you need to pay close attention to three important points: 1.) Lubricant - out of the box, ball joint dry on gimbal. This means there's a lot of squeaking and snagging as you move, resulting in shaky and incoherent video. A drop of 3-in-1 oil helped me by making the suspension smooth and quiet. Before the hinge was lubricated, this assembly was virtually useless, so don't skip this part. 2.) Balancing - This can be one of the most frustrating aspects of this device. It must be perfectly balanced in all three axes. This device is highly configurable, giving you plenty of balancing options, which is great if you're using a camcorder or DSLR with a tilting screen that shifts your balance sideways. Be prepared to play around with it for a while before finding the perfect balance. 3.) Technique is probably the most important factor in achieving good results. Don't expect to mount, balance and work the camera. Learning how to move with the camera is essential if you want to minimize sway and sway. You need to dampen all your movements, from walking to slowing down and panning. So many negative reviews here don't take into account the learning curve of such devices. You have to use it quite a lot before you get the results you want. Another thing to keep in mind is that this isn't a device for every shot. It's absolutely great for adding movement to your work or when following a moving subject, but remember that a good moving-head tripod is a much better solution for things that involve rotation. However, what this device can do is much better and easier than holding the camera in your hands or moving the tripod on a cart. It goes everywhere, even in narrow corridors and tight corners. I would recommend this device but be willing to work on it. The included weights are a good start, but they don't suit everyone. A couple of steel discs to use as weights might be just what you need for some cameras.

Pros
  • Don't be fooled by fakes. The Roxant logo should be on top of the handle. And the product must be delivered in a Roxant box.
