Cleans water from pool cover

I bought this multi-purpose water pump to replace my previous (and more expensive) Craftsman pump which broke down after 2 years of infrequent use. The Wayne pump shown here looks good after a week of careful use. The device quickly cleans a large inground pool (30 x 15 x 8 feet) with small attachments. I am satisfied with the device as it is not designed exclusively for pool use. Important aspects: - The water intake takes place through a grid at the bottom of the device. - The device has no switch; plug it in and it works. Unplug to turn off. - Inflation is designed for a 1 1/4" hose - expect a drop in performance if you don't use this hose (to be expected) - the garden hose adapter works, but using garden hoses is limited by the height and flow (but the Performance is acceptable considering) - Submersible as advertised but limited by length of power cord - Long cord length (12 or 15ft?) - Unit is very quiet - I had to check if it was the first time that I plugged it in. - The pump is quite heavy (8lbs) despite the plastic case On the pool lid it sinks a little but the power hose/cable keeps it upright - The cylindrical unit tips over slightly on the surface The previous Craftsman -Pump was crap and this unit definitely outperformed it from day one - let's hope Overall the pump works well for me but the lack of some features/options may be a bummer for some be too big a problem. The lack of a power switch may seem controversial, but moving the pump in a humid environment can be dangerous, often with wet hands. An adapter for connecting the inlet hose, an automatic switch-off and a switch would make the device more versatile and popular. A final note for pool users: another post suggested putting a small bucket (empty chlorine bucket!) into holes. Place the pump unit in the bucket and lower it into the water. This keeps large debris (read: leaves) out of the pump inlet, makes lowering/raising the pump easier and makes it a little more stable. Consider mounting the unit in a bucket to prevent tipping. I still give this device 4 stars because the performance is great and I probably expected too much for the price.
