I have an old ELM327 compatible reader that I have in one of my cars but I wanted a new reader for my 2014 Ford Escape. It's nice to keep in the car in case you come across an error code on the go. This Kepouse Products ODBII reader is nicely packaged and has two status LEDs at the end. I connected it to an ODBII port on my computer and turned on my Android phone by running the suggested "Torque" app that I already had installed. I followed the instructions listed and liked that I didn't have to manually pair the reader to my phone, I just had to select it from a list in the Torque app. Anyway, I was able to connect to the car. , scan error codes (none were found) and read the status of many variables. As a lover of old cars, I always love how easy it is to read so many data points from different sensors. I think the ODBII reader would be great for what I want to use it for.
