The texture is semi-leather and while some people have mentioned they don't like how thin it is, I find the thickness useful...if you can clearly see your work from the wrong side, you're working at that depth, which would result in a runaway in real skin. If your primary focus is working with lines and strokes, I've found that mixing ink with water (a 50/50 mix) makes it very easy to wash off without the need for petroleum jelly. Just keep in mind that this affects the darkness of what you are working on and is not a good indication of how dark your work will be as a real tattoo. For the low price this is a great buy.
