I listen to a wide range of classical music and opera, often very long pieces, and prefer a cassette player to a portable CD player for its versatility and openness. , often excellent sound quality (I use my own cassettes). iPods are cumbersome crap with poor sound quality for my type of listening. Anyway, I now have the penultimate Panasonic player, which incidentally came with some of the best headphones ever made at any price point. In any case, I bought a Sony as a backup, since all such products seem to me to last a maximum of 1-2 years. Of course, the included Sony headphones are better to use as a cat toy or throw away; but with alternative headphones the sound quality seems almost as good as my Panasonic. The battery cover is annoying and clearly fragile. I swear, Sony portable players have always had at least one fatal flaw that caused them to fail early. For years it was extremely weak and vulnerable headphone jacks, now it's the battery door - I suspect that's planned obsolescence. That being said, Sony is the only company that still makes portable cassette players to my knowledge and I really hope they remain relevant. it's happening I have a huge and valuable collection of tapes that I hope will continue to listen to for at least 20-30 years. Glory to Sony. As far as I know, Sony is the only company that still makes portable tape recorders and I really hope they continue to do so.
