When this thing is on, an inevitable high-pitched hum can be heard throughout my apartment. I'll either go deaf or crazy on that particular frequency if I don't turn it off when I get home. For the first week, I ran the dehumidifier 24/7 for 10 days before it was about 80% full. That is not much. I live in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle) and it was December with constant rain outside. This dehumidifier works best in a basement or closet where you don't need to hear it and see that it's not working. I spend more and get something bigger and quieter. or at least it also makes an "airy" sound and not that annoying rumble.
