Review on Enhanced PowerCore Cool Air Intake by Volant - 176386 by Larry Daniels

But it's really pretty.

To be clear. This is a really good air intake for a Jeep Wrangler. It also has a nice body that offers the same water protection but better airflow. It also includes a dry filter as an extra precaution to keep water out of the inlet. Great for you off-road lovers. I won't give this product a bad review because it's exactly as described, great quality, looks really nice and gives the Wrangler a really nice raspy acceleration sound. But claims of increased gas mileage and horsepower are just plain wrong. I installed this air intake, a Volant Vortice throttle body gasket, and a Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler cat-back exhaust system. And after all that, I really only noticed a slight difference in torque delivery. It comes off the trail a little quicker and doesn’t need to downshift as much uphill. In terms of gas mileage, I *probably* only noticed a 1-2 mile increase in mileage on the freeway. When I first bought my Jeep, I was driving the Interstate through Florida. Curious about the fuel mileage, I reset the jeep's mpg meter before hitting the interstate. I drove I-10 and I-75 where the top speed is 70 and I averaged 75 and got 14 to 15+ mpg. Pretty bad, right? This is a jeep. I love it. Just gets terrible gas mileage. That's why I paid for these upgrades in hopes of improving fuel economy. After installing them all, I drove the Jeep back through Florida, back onto I-75. Great opportunity to test this. I reset the mpg counter on the computer just before a freeway trip. Average 75 (based on what my Garmin nav system tells me) and 16 to 17+ mpg. I was actually happy with that. But city driving doesn't matter. Finally, this thing is going to make your Jeep sound really tough, and I love the extra torque. It's up to you to decide whether it's worth spending that much money. I do not regret it. This makes my jeep feel stiffer. I will then try the Flashpaq superchip and see if it makes a big difference with these updates. From what I've researched, this alone makes the biggest difference in hp and mpg. So what can he do with these add-ons?

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
