Works exactly like a 500w infrared heater

Works great. Provides 250W or 500W of infrared heating power. I added a small fan to disperse heat in the small bedroom on wheels I use it in. Correct expectations are important. A low wattage heater like this is ideal for keeping a small area warm for a long period of time as it uses little electricity. If you want a heater that can take the temperature from zero to 70 degrees in 5 minutes, you need a much larger heater that can chug.
