Review on Prestige APS997Z Two Way Confirming Remote by Dale Toth

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good price although it requires some skills.

I chose this alarm based on previous reviews and not writing in Revine. I used to install and own many code alarm systems but they seem to have almost disappeared from the automotive security market. The Prestige is distributed by Voxx Electronics, which now also owns Code Alarm. I have installed Viper alarms in the past and while they seem to be well made they often require additional "extra hardware", require writing bits to make most software changes and if you are not a licensed dealer, they do not offer technical support. or a guarantee. So I took a risk and went with Prestige. Setting this alarm clock wasn't easy for me as I tried to fit most of the features (and there are many) into it. I had to add 4 additional relays and 3 diodes which were not included due to my car's locking system, dome light and exterior lights. Also note that the outputs of this system are limited to a maximum of 200mA and exceeding this will damage the main module and will not be covered under warranty. Plan your installation in advance as it is quite difficult and you will need to do some research on your particular vehicle's wiring. For all of this, the technical support has been top notch and very helpful. After registering a product, there is also a lot of online documentation. On the other hand, the main remote feels a little flimsy and cheap compared to my other alarm remotes. It holds up well, but for protection I wrapped the screen with a phone screen protector I had on hand. Some options of this alarm system can only be programmed with the Flashlogic programmer. Depending on your configuration and whether you have access to a Flashlogic programmer, this may or may not be an issue. Some car radios will do this for you for a small fee. So far I haven't had any issues with battery drain or false alarms; and it has been working very reliably since installation. I haven't fully tested the range, but at least once it started a car three blocks away. I will update this review if there are any issues in the future but overall I would say it is good value for money and so far I am happy with its performance.
