I bought the plastic version of this set of extension rings. It's just great. The extension ring's job is to move the back of the lens further away from the flange on the body, allowing the lens to focus closer than would be possible simply with the lens' focus coil. It should hold the lens firmly and also parallel to the mounting flange. This can be a challenge given the weight and length of some zoom lenses. However, the Mcoplus tubes worked well. I didn't notice any change in sharpness across the focal plane, and the lens didn't seem to drop off like some cheap zooms do. BUT, this is a set of extension tubes; It's not a macro lens. Zoom lenses are not designed to work close to the subject. Like most prime numbers. If lenses maintained their sharpness up close, lens manufacturers would probably call them "macro" and put them with closer focus mounts! Most zoom lenses aren't parfocal, which means you'll need to refocus a bit when zooming from wide-angle to telephoto. This problem is very complicated on the extension ring. The picture quality definitely suffers and you will notice that the zoom behavior changes. Full "tele" may not give as much magnification as a slightly wider value. In an "emergency" you can also use the extension ring with a high zoom if you prefer to get a slightly blurred image than no image at all. All of this applies to any extension ring, no matter how precise, stiff and expensive. I do not recommend using an extension tube with a zoom lens. Period. But who am I kidding? I still use zoom extension rings. But I know the pitfalls and what to expect. For best results use extension tubes with prime lenses, the aperture should be at least two stops when the lighting is good. YMMV. photo warning. With all these caveats, let me move on to this series of rings. They are very well made for the price. You are tough enough. They are well done. And they easily attach to both the lens and the body of my Olympus M4/3 kit. They transfer information correctly between the lens and the body to make the automatic exposure modes work. I haven't tested all of my lenses and bodies, but with both tubes coupled with high magnification, I find the autofocus is a bit on the quest and doesn't always get exactly the right focus point, but it gets close. Please note that this is not the fault of these extension tubes; This is because the camera's in-camera focus detection system doesn't work as well with a darker image and a very much reduced depth of field at close lens-to-subject distances. It's just physics. And why everyone who uses extension tubes should learn how to use manual focus with focus peaking enabled. I have an Oly 75mm f/2.8 macro lens; this is an awesome lens. But it's big and heavy. I wear it when I specifically expect to take close-up shots. I don't always carry it with me. But I always have either a 17mm or a 25mm prime, and I always carry one of those rings in the pocket of my camera bag. That way I can always get a little closer and get a decent shot. Last fall, on vacation, I took several hundred pictures. I used the extension tube for about a dozen shots. This is the duty cycle I expected. At this rate, plastic lens mounts will likely last for decades. After all, most fighter jets today are built from "composite" materials. I am happy with my purchase. For about twenty dollars I got a solid set of AF/AE extension rings. Not as pretty as the Olympus or Panasonic kits, but they work well in degraded mode, which is 20% the cost of an OEM unit. Now the same manufacturers could build a teleconverter with a four-element Barlow lens and a 1.4-element lens. X magnification, even for limited use as a last resort when a little extra magnification is useful?
