Follow the installation instructions.

Just installed after looking at it for a few months. I had to replace the screen first because the cat grabbed it with its claws. So anything and everything for an inexperienced person, two hours with 6 year old twins bores them to do all the work. Not used yet, let's see. It's plastic so I expect it to withstand rain/snow. Has a magnetic feature at the bottom to help keep it closed when not in use. The locking function is a simple outward turn. The latch holes were a great place to insert a flathead screwdriver to separate the pieces for installation. Do yourself a favor and follow the installation instructions. They were helpful as I sat down and started the install.
