This is a great item for outdoor activities. It lights up electronically even in windy or wet weather. Good thing it's rechargeable without refueling with butane. It comes with a USB cable and you just plug it into any phone charger. The cigarette lighter can be removed from the housing. The device itself has a small notched button to turn it off, but you'll need a toothpick to press it. I feel like there should be an off button on the body that is easy to toggle on and off as I find this lighter too easy to light. All you have to do is lightly touch the large button on the front with your finger. My husband disagrees, he says it's not that easy to light because the cap has to be opened before it lights up and there is a small loop on the flip cap to keep it closed. He says it's perfectly safe but I'm more tired than usual. Make sure you use a toothpick and turn it off when charging. My husband didn't do this and he accidentally set it on fire while plugging in the charger which is right next to the "flame". The heat source looks and sounds like electricity, which is pretty cool.
