Review on NRC XRC Stainless Bracelet Sailboat by Adam Taylor

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Both shackles failed immediately with careful use

Unfortunately both 2 5/8" shackles failed on first use. In both cases the pin was pulled out completely and the spring was lost. The shackles were actually deformed and no longer fit into the pin slot. The shackle was used as a quick release to disconnect the belted person from the pulley block/rope hoist that lifted the person to begin swinging the rope (this was not used as a critical safety component, thus its failure not threatening anyone.) The weight listed should be more than enough for the minimum static load it was subjected to. Unfortunately, these shackles were a failure. They look and feel good, but if you have the lifting capacity, look elsewhere and please NEVER attempt to use these shackles for security purposes. I wouldn't either cht recommend as rigging on a sailboat. more than a sunfish, FYI. They are likely to fail even when subjected to the stress of a boat sized spinnaker.
