I was skeptical about the cooling of this device, but I risked money to try. I was in awe of the torx screw, but a screwdriver is included and it's pretty nice. Installation was easy: you pop the drive into the slot, lay it down, and just move the lever to lock it in place. Attach a silicone heating pad, slide the lid back into place and reinstall the screw. It took less than two minutes from start to finish. Next, speed and heat dissipation were tested. Windows 11 was already installed on the drive. Booting from the drive was easy and faster than expected. Using the LCD display for temperature control, the disc was at 28Β°C under normal use. When running five Chrystalmark 1GB passes, the temperature climbed to 31C, with 1090MB random reads and 1070 random writes. That's impressive considering I had just over 500MB on a passively cooled Vantec with the same NVMe drive. While it's not at fault in any case, you can't use the Samsung Magician because Windows 10 and 11 show external NVMe drives as external SCSI devices. The software recognizes the drive model and capacity. However, it says the drive is not supported. Can't say anything negative, just wish it had a degrees Fahrenheit option.
