I got this to use my Rift S on my laptop and it works great. No weird artifacts or stuttering (unless my laptop is having issues haha). In addition, the design leaves enough space for ports next to it. I haven't tested the Rift S on a regular USB-C port, but I know it works with a Thunderbolt 3 port.
