We bought these for our 12 year old for the choir. He needed trousers and shoes. He's tall, but he doesn't have the waist like some size 14 kids do. They have an adjustable waistband on the sides that allows for a 2 inch adjustment. You don't need much - check the size chart before you buy, it's very accurate. We usually buy 12 and bought 14 for accurate measurements and it worked great. For our purposes, that's fine. Wish the bottom leg opening was a bit bigger so if you have bulky shoes you might want to reconsider. As if they wouldn't work with any type of shoe and would barely match the shoes we bought for the choir,
