Review on πŸ›οΈ High-Grade Twin XL Japanese Traditional Shiki Futon (Shikibuton) Floor Mattress - Made in Japan by Tina Coleman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

a permanent solution to pain (and a good night's sleep)

People who gave bad reviews and claimed it was "no better than a blanket" etc. don't understand the meaning of Shikibuton. They should be strong with minimal cushioning and supportive. They are the opposite of western style beds. They're not even considered "very hard" western mattresses. This is an excellent Japanese futon. I slept on it for a while; The very first one I bought was also made in Japan, expensive and filled with 100% cotton. It's excellent, although I find it too heavy to work with and requires too much maintenance (it's over 20 pounds and difficult to fold). Cotton also molds easily. Cotton also loses its strength and resiliency, which requires a lot of sun exposure and fluffing. Too much work. This is very light and padded with polyester and offers perfect support and rigidity; Combined with tatami, I think it's the most comfortable way to sleep I've ever experienced and I never wake up in pain (like I used to). If the idea of sleeping on something fairly solid doesn't appeal to you, you probably shouldn't buy it. But if you're looking for a better night's sleep and/or have back/neck/shoulder issues that you think your mattress may be making worse, this is a brilliant solution. And after a few years of sleeping on one and feeling no pain, this simple and inexpensive futon might seem like a miracle.
