Review on πŸ“» Black TYT TH-9800 Cross-Band Mobile Car Ham Radio - Quad Band, 50W by Willie Ogunlana

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Bad crossband, no tech support, no warranty

This is an almost identical Yaesu 8900 clone but without a working crossband repeater function and no warranty. Spend an additional $100 to get Yaesu. TYT's two-year warranty is useless because they don't answer and don't have a working tech support number. On all three TYT 9800 radios that I have owned, the radio would stall when transmitting in interband repeater mode. When this first happened I was using the 9800 between my HT and a friend's repeater. This radio was stuck in transmit mode, effectively blocking its repeater until I could turn it off. In this case the radio does not respond. It may take 5 minutes or 4 hours, but it will eventually get blocked in transit. The only solution is to turn it off and on again. One eventually died from me after Revane's return time. TYT offers a two-year manufacturer's warranty, but I've contacted them multiple times over the course of a month with no response. Many thanks to Revain for excluding returns under the circumstances.
