Review on πŸ›‘οΈ Lippert Components 1346281 Flex Guard Double Kit: Enhanced Protection in Standard Black, Complete with Hardware by Danny Kamerer

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Poor design - both sides need to rotate

Ordered to replace a broken existing guard. The downside to the design is that the guardrail has a free-moving hinged end, but a flat end that needs to be nailed to the trailer's I-beam. Because this flat end is bolted directly to the trailer frame, it cannot "float". This causes the flat end side to flex back and forth as the slider moves in and out - until the protective material breaks. (I suspect this was the problem that caused the original guard to break.) My "solution" to this design flaw was to leave the existing mounting bracket/pin in place and use it for the pivot side of the protection while I used the new bracket . (supplied with this kit) and attached to the trailer frame. Then use some zip ties through the flat side holes to secure it to the bracket/stud. Both sides of the guard are now free to move as the slider is extended and retracted - this allows for the necessary flexing along the full length of the guard, not just at the flat end - MUCH LESS stress on the material. While I will have to keep an eye on these zip ties as they wear out, I'm happy to replace a few zip ties every few years rather than replacing the entire protector.
