I have been using a gold filter for many years. When the gold filter started to detach from the plastic frame, I looked for another one. I couldn't find a replacement for Revain that wasn't mentioned in the recommendations ("it doesn't fit right" or "it's a cheap version of the original" etc etc). So I finally pulled the trigger and bought these paper filters. Couldn't be happier. Initially I didn't want paper filters because 1) they are disposable and I like to reuse them; and 2) I thought they were dirty. Well, they certainly aren't reusable, but they're not dirty either - they're immaculate! I usually leave the filter in the brown until the next morning and then just take it out and throw it in the bin: the coffee grounds don't spill out and it's a perfectly clean process. No loose grist to clean up. I can't say if the coffee tasted better - I also had to change the grinder and I use different types of beans so there is no control to check.
