In 1991, Sony introduced audio professionals to the MDR7506 closed-back headphones. Impeccable neutrality, unparalleled comfort and consistent build quality soon made them the industry standard. Today is 1/2/2016. And yes, 25 years later they are still the first choice of audio professionals around the world they were in high definition before hi res the sony mdr7506 is a real classic they are great for all genres of music but don't fake them if the source is bad , then it won't sound good. But if the source is good, the sound won't deteriorate. Lead vocals and lead guitar will take their place in the center of the stage. Everything will be as the artists and engineers wished have. And everything is heard. Great music blooms. Hallelujah! If I only had two headphones at home for listening to music and watching movies, one would be closed and un d the other open. While I prefer an open "sound" to a closed one, there's generally a time and place for both. And sometimes my ears just get tired and need replacing. When everything is open and nothing is closed, Butch has dumb ears. My choice for Open is the Sennheiser HD600 Open Back Professional Headphones for their vivid clarity, wide soundstage and outstanding comfort. Check! Anything less than $400 is that good. For my closed headphones, nothing beats the Sony MDR 7506 for less than €150. Check! Even the Audio-Technica ATH M50/50X. Yes, it can be fun to listen to headphones. But they never really blossom because of their bass bias. The equalizer only worsens the sound of the source. With neutral banks I decide if and where bumps are needed, not someone else. At 10 ounces, the M50 is a full 2 ounces heavier and not as comfortable for long trips as the 7506. And they're not as durable. Don't get me wrong, I do like the ATH M50 from time to time, but they're not quite as headphones as the 7506. As well as home use, I'd like to add that the 7506 is also very portable. The coiled cord has been designed not to tangle on itself like many other coiled cords. These Sony are fully developed. Really professional. Very minimalist right down to their matte black finish. Very zen.
