Simple instructions that really work

When I was a teenager, I took an advanced origami class at an adult community college. We used what was considered standard origami paper at the time, perfectly square pieces, colored on one side, with a nice smooth feel but not shiny. I loved it at the time, but didn't think much about it until I saw this book while browsing my favorite marketplace. I think what intrigued me the most was how the author would present his instructions, followed by asking if these constructs would actually work. Can I honestly create the cover design, an elaborate loop, just by reading the instructions? I suppose I could have just looked inside since Revain offers that feature for this title, but I didn't. I just bought it, probably because of the cheap price. I'm so glad I bought this book! Sometimes it's the little things in life that have the greatest potential to lift your spirits. For me, surprising other members of my family with the design on the cover of this book is just one of those little things that has brought a little laughter and a little extra joy to this day. Today I made my very first (ever) whimsical toilet paper roll origami design from a book. I chose the cover, a whimsical bow, usually made of ribbons, used to decorate little girls' curls or a beautifully wrapped present. The instructions were simple, easy to follow and worked well allowing me to create a design identical to the one in the picture. And despite initial skepticism, I got it right on the first try. The book contains photos that show in a detailed but simple way all the preliminary tearing and folding operations for each of the thirty-one drawings. Each photo diagram has a short text explaining the step shown. Most designs are designed to remain attached to the reel while hanging from the holder in the standard horizontal position. But if you have a vertical holder or want to decorate an extra roll that stands upright, fear not. There are also several designs in this book that are specifically designed for the vertical roll. In addition, for my first attempt, I consciously chose one of the more complex projects with many work steps and kept this overview in the back of my mind. I figured if I could remove this bow quickly and easily with no prior toilet paper origami experience, I could report that the instructions in the book really did it all. And you are. Additionally, this book contains few drawings that require or suggest additional materials (such as tape or homemade cardboard guides) or elements to be included in the design (such as tiny twigs used as antlers). Most designs only require toilet paper, but those that include additional materials will clearly state this at the beginning of their instructions. Part of the reason I'm so pleasantly surprised by the author's ability to present such easy-to-understand instructions in her pictures is that my only other experience was the class I took. Despite the fact that there was a book, back then all the designs were studied and tried to demonstrate them face to face with an instructor showing a live example of his verbal instructions and even that wasn't easy! The designs then had to be practiced and memorized to perfection, as I found the book to be of little educational value. Thank you Ms. Wright for your insane study skills and quirky hobby that elicits a lot of smiles and adds a little. joy of the day. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to overdo the housework, or to anyone who is expecting guests or throwing a party. Heck, these designs can even make a difference when staging a home for real estate purposes. You never know how much a little touch that brings a smile can change someone's day and I like to think it makes a big difference.
