I ordered size 9 for my 9ft height and it fits perfectly like textbook. The width is great and for people like me with EE/EEE feet it's like finding the holy grail. Inside, the sole has just the right amount of firmness: no memory foam, no cheap plastic. No sharp arch support When you first put them on they might seem flat to you, but I think the idea is that if you break them under your weight they will press into the sole and create a shape, a habit. The outsole has a kind of swing, something like foam/plastic with dimples. I've worn them with and without socks and both are fine. I think if the base is solid and not made up of layers it will help increase lifespan in warm weather. I love their casual look, don't worry if the canvas wears out over time. That is the point! One caveat: You'll probably need a shoehorn to put them on since the heel area (like the rest of the shoe) is canvas with little stretch or flex. Socks are an even bigger problem.
