Big Bets! They are very heavy and very durable, not intended for tourists. And relatively expensive, but worth every penny for me. After growing up with crappy plastic pegs or flimsy thin metal pegs that bent like noodles and caused constant irritation, these Snow Peak pegs brought me peace. Small #20 8" poles are fine for most modest tents (e.g. 4-6 people) within reason. They are strong enough to drive into the hard Utah ground or, if need be, into a tree They are good in soft ground but you may need longer ones in poor ground I use 12" #30s for this or in strong winds. In soft sand a straight stake is not suitable; You will need special anchors for this or if you are on solid rock. They work best in combination with the Snow Peak copper tipped hammer as its hook is designed to fit in a hole or slide under a hook. The hook can be used to rotate the pin for easier finding, and is also handy for digging to get under the pin once you've driven it all the way in. If you need to keep weight to a minimum there are good aluminum or light steel pegs that are a good compromise, but if you're driving and can afford the weight (and cost) they'll never let you down to let.
