Well I've been tiling full time since 1982 and have several fine tip compound drill bits. Up to this point my favorite has been the Dewalt Spade 1/2 7 or 9 amp drill which is without a doubt an amazing drill but this Makita is better. It's definitely a bit heavier and doesn't have variable speed, which I didn't realize until it arrived and screwed it up, but the speed of the drill doesn't really call for it. Yes, if you're mixing a lot of small mixes, variable speed might be more appropriate, but 95% of the time I'm mixing full bags, so this isn't a problem. I can literally add water and put 50 pounds of powder in at a time and the drill mixes with no problem. It's very smooth and quiet and has a great grip. This is the Cadillac of thin-walled drills.
