The Ziploc vacuum pump is an inexpensive way to store perishable food. I bought this primarily for the pump as the packings are very unreliable when it comes to seal retention. As you probably know, fresh strawberries only keep for a few days in the fridge. Using strawberry storage bags, I turn them into a mush when you deflate them. What I do is put the strawberries in a can or an empty spaghetti sauce jar. I pierce the metal plate with a small nail and seal the hole with a piece of tape. I tighten the lid and deflate with a Ziploc pump. This procedure can be viewed on YouTube. My strawberries keep for about 2 weeks. This makes the Ziploc pump worth considering. Pays only 2 purchases of strawberries. I also use it for onions and other fruits and vegetables. Just take out what you need, close the lid and pump the air out again. You won't get "space" vacuum with this cheap plastic vacuum pump, but it's good enough for preserving food.
