"Ionizers" are no good in cars and most homes. They lack the power and ability to ionize and precipitate a significant percentage of airborne particles. And even if you have an ionizer powerful enough to remove solid particles, ionization does little to prevent ground particles from re-entering the air if disturbed. For this reason, I was looking for a compact car-only filtration system to reduce smoke particles from the cabin air from the recent wildfires in my area. This unit is nice and compact (looks like a Venti sized coffee mug, fits in a cup holder, has its own rechargeable internal battery, can be charged from a car USB port with the included cable, and at higher settings (adjustable by turning at the top of the device) reliably filters air in the front seating area of the car Disadvantages Vapor naturally At >50% setting which seems necessary to circulate enough air it is quite loud No disturbing noise but a medium-high hum that can be heard at normal volume of the spoken word (conversations , audio books, my usual music volume, etc.) Filters are interchangeable, which is great, but replacing cheap, plain, cylindrical paper filters (e.g. oil filter innards) is quite expensive, the cost of filters makes up a significant percentage of the price of the unit itself and the connected filter.Refill daily for three months s nded on both short and external drives, and the original filter is still relatively clean (greier than the replacement filter, but not so dirty that I'm tempted to swap it out at this point). I also don't think it would be useful in the office or at home. It's definitely not capable of handling room-sized volumes of air even at the highest (loudest) settings. But for car use it's ok.
