Review on πŸ”Š Dynamat 50306 DynaBox Speaker Enclosure: Optimal Solution for In Ceiling Speakers by Angie Love

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Allows the installation of phono stages for built-in speakers in a finished wall/ceiling!

This is an amazing product. I built a cinema in my basement about two years ago and at the time I decided to go with 5.1 sound because the width wasn't big enough to put side surround speakers on the walls and I wasn't keen on the idea of doing that built-in speakers. on the side walls. I've since changed my mind and decided to upgrade to Atmos surround sound with ceiling speakers. The good news was that I knew every inch of what was hidden behind the dry stone wall in this theater. The bad news is that I have no way of doing soundproofing (back panels in this case) on the new in-wall speakers without cutting out large sections of the drywall to gain access to the cavities. Installing speakers in my ceiling would seriously compromise my work on soundproofing the room. I've looked at all the ways to solve this problem, from design methods to creating my own solution, but nothing came close to being satisfactory. I finally made up my mind and bought two of them. This is the only one I've found (a product or custom solution) that meets both of my needs: reducing sound transmission through the ceiling and installing my theater without unnecessarily disassembling (and then repairing) it. I originally turned down the $100 price tag for each, but now that I've installed them I've come to the conclusion that they're more than worth the money. The quality of these materials is first class. That you can roll these materials tightly and slide them through a speaker-sized hole in your ceiling is a revelation. The installation is extremely simple and uncomplicated. You simply cut a hole in the box to fit your speaker (and a small piece for the speaker wire), roll up the box and insert it into the speaker hole, align the box until it is properly seated, thread the absorber panels through that Hole and glue them in place, then secure the boxes to the drywall with a thick bead of caulk. Designing and building my theater was incredibly complex and designing and installing this product was one of the easiest things I have ever done. This product represents two of the four soundproofing methods: absorption and mass. Dampening and decoupling methods have to be satisfied in other ways, which meets my expectations when I bought it. I see other reviews here saying this product doesn't do very good soundproofing and that's just nonsense. The reality is that the best soundproofing method is decoupling. If your drywall is not separated from your studs, and the studs of the room you are soundproofing are not separated from adjacent rooms, then your ability to soundproof the room is already severely compromised; Using absorption and mass alone won't do much. This is not the fault of the product. What I can say on the subject is that this product works as well as one would hope. It does a great job, but they're not magical. If your room is not separated from neighboring rooms, you will hear sound from speakers in neighboring rooms even if they are in these boxes. Obviously you can't separate a room once it's built. The best thing you can do for soundproofing when installing speakers in walls or ceilings is to use these boxes AND install a thick layer of fiberglass insulation in the cavity above/behind them (and the entire cavity if possible). If you want to learn more about soundproofing, I recommend reading <a href="https://www.soundproofingcompany.com/soundproofing_101/4-elements-of-soundproofing">this article on the soundproofing company's website begin</ a>. .Personally I find this product amazing. I had high expectations and they were more than met. My newly installed speakers sound great and the sound transmission to neighboring rooms is as quiet as it was before the new speakers were installed (actually I was expecting that some soundproofing would be lost after the new speakers were installed). If you are only satisfied with a product that completely isolates your speakers, then this product will not satisfy you. In fact, no product or individual solution will satisfy you, because this soundproofing is not possible with just one product or one soundproofing method. Consider this before you spend $100 a box on this product (actually, consider this before deciding to buy in-wall speakers).
