Excellent flashlights

Update, blown light bar. Didn't even last two years. I used them for lighting in the back of my pickup truck. I made my own tailgate switch by combining a three position switch (on-off-on), a sealed reed switch, and a neodymium magnet glued to my tailgate. One circuit has a reed switch that turns the light off when I close the back door. I connected it to my trailer plug to have constant access to 12v without having to run a wire to the battery. I can also turn the switch all the way off and turn the other two circuits all the way on at the main switch. It's amazing and my dad got me to install the same on his truck after seeing this work. I prepped the aluminum (I have a tonneau cover frame that I installed the lantern on) with some alcohol wipes to give it a really good clean. If you are gluing this to metal it should be left until the metal is free of oil and dust prior to application. It may not stick to lower surface energy materials (plastic or paint) as easily unless they're really clean. I filled the transition from the side wall to the rear and the ends of the lantern on the truck frame with epoxy so that it doesn't peel off. Nothing in the middle sags and I've worn it in -5F winter temps as well as 91F summer days with the trunklid closed so far. The light stays bright and the bed area is clearly visible without any problems. I can see everything in bed and for the most part there aren't even any shadows because the light comes from 3 walls. I haven't noticed any major color change after about 6 months of low usage. This is a fairly low current draw and I calculated that I could leave them on for about 48 hours before they completely drain my truck's battery, but I haven't tested this. I had my tailgate down with the truck off (lights on) for about 3-4 hours and was able to start with no problems and not drain the battery. I've mentioned this setup many times as I feel a lot of people are buying it for cars/trucks, so details on how it works might be helpful to others.

Pros
  • Handy thing
Cons
  • So far so good
