As mentioned, the name can be a bit misleading. This is what most would call a trigger, not a remote control. For some, the term "remote switch" implies that it is a wireless device. But the picture and description clearly state that it is connected with a cord, so just arguing about semantics at this point. Even Canon calls it a remote switch, so take it with you. In my opinion the main reason for buying it is to get rid of the very slight but potentially noticeable shaking of your hand on the camera when doing a long exposure.
