Does exactly what it says on the tin

As mentioned, the name can be a bit misleading. This is what most would call a trigger, not a remote control. For some, the term "remote switch" implies that it is a wireless device. But the picture and description clearly state that it is connected with a cord, so just arguing about semantics at this point. Even Canon calls it a remote switch, so take it with you. In my opinion the main reason for buying it is to get rid of the very slight but potentially noticeable shaking of your hand on the camera when doing a long exposure. Those who complain about the inability to Capturing self-portraits or other limitations of a two-foot lens. Cord need to look at existing wireless solutions; There are different tools for different needs. And I don't know about you, but I'm a big fan of how a few feet of slack cable can't dangle from a heavy tripod and hold $3,000 worth of gear. I would prefer the cord to be relatively short so someone walking by doesn't accidentally snag it and wreck my entire rig. If you're shooting directly behind the camera, the cable will suffice; My wife even used it to keep her hands in her pockets on cold shoots and it had enough wiggle room for that. All in all, it does what it says: it acts as an extension of the trigger, so you can easily shoot extra long exposure times. Build quality isn't great, but I've dropped it a couple of times and put it in the large pocket of our main camera bag. which it shares with many other accessories and it still works great. I think that's partly because the electronics of the device are very small and simple, so it's very light and feels cheap, even though it's built quite well. Range, this works great and unlike wireless switches doesn't require batteries which always seem to die at the worst possible times. Personally, I prefer wired connections whenever possible because, all in all, they are more reliable than wireless. Note: This does not work with 40D/50D models. We got this for our Rebel XT and thought it could be used with the 50D we recently bought but it didn't work. that this is partly because the electronics of the device are very small and simple, ie very light and cheap looking, although it may be quite well constructed.
