Excellent budget travel - zoom. For beginners and for those who shoot in auto mode, this is a great lens. If you decide to take a SLR, it's better to go broke on it than on 18-55. Practice, shoot, understand "what's what", and then - as you like, if you go further, then you will outgrow it, and if not, it will be an excellent all-rounder "For the home, for the family."
