Review on Set of 6 Glencairn Whisky Glasses in Gift Carton by Tone Hatton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Changes the situation - Old fashioned glasses

Bought this set but one arrived broken. I immediately requested a refund but after inspecting them on the spot I found that a set of four from Total Wine including tax cost me almost as much as this set so I canceled the return because of the value was obvious. This set got five stars for that. in my book is the fact that you learn things about your whiskey that you don't learn from a straight rimmed whiskey glass. For example, while I love the taste of Maker's Mark, using this jar to really get your nose was enlightening. One of my favorite whiskeys from this glass smelled [to me] of paint thinner. That won't stop me from continuing to enjoy Maker's Mark, but it does show why this glass is designed the way it is. In contrast, Bushmill's Red Bush Irish Whiskey has some intriguing and very pleasant notes that I had never noticed before purchasing this glass. As for the size, it's perfect for a one shot or a double shot. Anything beyond that interferes with the way the glass catches and directs your whiskey (or other spirits - my next test will be with cognac). I personally like the weight, the design and the function of the glass. As disappointed as I was when a glass arrived broken, that disappointment was mitigated by the experience I had and I highly recommend purchasing a set. I plan to buy more but will pay a higher price to buy locally because my experience of a broken lens ruined my confidence in the delivery of these glasses [pun intended].
