Review on πŸ”Œ Rowenta DW2459 Access Steam Iron - Retractable Cord, Stainless Steel Soleplate - Black by Ken Reiff

Danger! Fire hazard!

This was my third Rowenta. The first two I had were the DW2191 and they were terrible. They were too heavy and didn't have enough support, so they could fall over. They poured out a lot of water. The cable was real junk. Both irons broke from the fall. In this model they seem to have fixed these issues and everything worked fine. This time I was happy with my purchase because they were all quite expensive. But then, without warning, mine literally burst into flames, spattering molten aluminum onto the ironing board and floor. This wasn't "user error" or my stupidity. I turned on the iron to heat it up and within 2 minutes it caught fire and filled my house with toxic plastic smoke. I bought it in March 2020 and in September 2021 my house almost caught fire. After putting out the fire and inspecting the iron, you can see that the inside is so hot that the inner aluminum bottom plate has reached its melting point. , poured out and the plastic ignited. A puddle of molten aluminum spilled onto the ironing board. Luckily it's made of flame retardant fabric and foam, but it still burns and releases toxic fumes. I grabbed the iron and carried it outside to put out the flames. Molten aluminum dripped onto the floor along the way. I really wonder how there isn't a safety mechanism to prevent the iron from melting completely. Please be careful I would not trust this hardware. (or any iron for me now).

Pros
  • Can be ironed with tap water - the iron is easy to fill thanks to the practical filling opening, anti-drip lid and transparent water tank window
Cons
  • Little things
