Review on ๐Ÿ”ด Premium Helix Metal Desktop Pencil Sharpener in Striking Red Body - Efficient Sharpening for Precision Writing by Kristen Simpson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

So far, so good. Let's see how it holds up

I recently bought this helix sharpener in hopes of getting a dressier point on my pencils. I had a Dahle 122 from the 1980's but after 30+ years the blades became a bit dull. Dahle had a fine point, but it wasn't safe to sharpen anything softer than colored pencils. As I read reviews of Helix and other sharpeners, I looked at photos of sharpened points and they looked like my dahle. So far the sharpener works well. I like that it's metal and feels solid - unlike current Dahle models which feel very plasticky. Sharpens very well. I've even sharpened Pitt and Gioconda pastels with it, although the instructions warned against using it on pastels. I'm hesitant to sharpen softer pencils like Caran D'ache. I had a broken nib, but I was able to take the pen apart and get a broken nib. One thing - Helix has a top selector but mine doesn't look like the photos in the product description. I have a plastic handle that is annoying but it rotates. I recommend leaving it dull for pastels. However, if you want the sharpener to last, you need to be careful with it.
