We installed this pet door professionally so I can't tell you how easy it would be for someone to do it themselves. It took the installer about two hours and a little tweaking to get it right, but it ended up being perfect. We installed it in an interior door and it is perfect for this use. (Unless you live in a very temperate climate, this probably isn't ideal for the front door.) My two new kittens learned to use the door very quickly (in half a day); I think the fact that the valve is made out of clear vinyl (and you can see through it) really helps. One kitten even uses it as a "window" sometimes - likes to sit to the side and look in. The included locking plate just snaps into place - very handy for keeping kittens on one side of the door or the other. Overall we are very happy with this product!
