Cleans well and didn't notice any of the black things others have said but I washed it in mild soapy warm water as recommended but within the first few minutes of first use it got rid of the hot oil smell which I suspect it was broken He quickly shredded about 25 pounds of wild boar, but I cut the meat back down to a size that wasn't causing any problems. So far I am satisfied with the purchase. As does the safety switch on the back where it doesn't trip when it's off. The main reason I chose this model is that it has metal gears and a shaft.
