The surface of the ball bearing has an uneven surface with a slightly mottled or irregularly convex surface. It could actually produce an interesting tactile feel if the surface was intentionally rough with a more consistent pattern (I imagine a nice buzz). However, since this appears to be the result of a poorly executed plating process, the result is a bit rough and uncomfortable. Maybe this is a feature of the gold version, but in any case I'm disappointed with the quality of the experience.
