For those of us who grew up with a traditional handset, this design is reversed: the microphone (19-hole star) and speaker (7-hole star) are integrated with all electronics (and weight ) behind the 19 hole star. This weighs down the top of the device, making it uncomfortable for those who are used to picking up the phone. However, this was purchased so that other people could call from my mobile (if needed) without using my phone. It serves that purpose. It also tends to fight my smartwatch for audio connectivity on incoming calls, I'm still working on that; these can be the settings between the handset and the telephone.
