I gave this product 4 stars out of 5 because it is smaller than it looks and some important points are not mentioned in the product description, so read on. The lock is just over 5.5 inches high, just under 8.5 inches long and 3 inches wide (width measured below). You can't tell from the picture, but the two main windows are only 1/2 inch wide and 0.75 inch high, so only small fish can get through. Also, there are very SMALL holes in the top of the towers, about the size of a dime, so again very small fish can get through them. The holes don't have sharp edges, so they don't need to be sanded. Overall the construction is actually very good, solid and nicely painted. If you plan on modifying it in any way you'll need an accurate and durable tool, something like a Dremel socket I think. It's made out of some kind of hardened plastic. I ended up not using this lock in my aquarium because it seemed too small for me. I have a 50 gallon oval glass tank so it's taller than it is long.
