I just got a kitten tearing this place apart. I've tried everything but he's just a kitten. He usually only freaks out in the early hours of the morning, so I decided to buy him a big playpen. The idea is good. He can still play and I can get him food and water and a small 'litter box'. The problem is with the product itself. Start with directions that look like a photocopy from the 1980s. You won't be able to understand much from the rough, fuzzy drawings, and the instructions are sometimes generic, like "unpack the cage." Mine was snagged because many of the hooks and latches were catching on each other. When you see its size you will understand how problematic this can be. I've put together my fair share of DIY projects over the years, and even I had trouble figuring out what goes with what at first. You'll then need about 4 feet of clear space on all sides to unroll it and then start assembling - that is, if you don't want to scratch walls or furniture. Oh, and that includes. Many welds and connections are simply sharp wire ends. This thing weighs pretty decent, and if it slides off while jumping backwards to collect it, watch out. But it's all just hassle, poor planning and finishing. The real problem is that mine came with bent or curved parts. This doesn't appear to be a shipping issue - the bending of the metal wire indicates a fairly significant manufacturing defect if the metal was hot. The bad news is that the top isn't very securely attached to the rest which, once you understand how this thing folds and holds together like a house of cards, means the danger of it collapsing on top of your pet is very real . And it weighs enough to do some serious damage. At the moment I was able to crimp some of the hooks with pliers hoping they would hold together better, but even a small animal like a cat jumping up and down on the wire can break it. unpacked and sent back. The box is already a mess, and with its weight, the shipping cost and hassle would be prohibitive. Which brings me to the price of this item. Is it worth $115 with change? no Maybe half. I try to buy US made products whenever I can, but they were poorly designed and cost almost double what I could pay for anything else. So much for trying to keep it local. I was hoping it would be much better. You might think twice and check out another playpen in the store first.
