We had to travel long distances with two cats (one of whom keeps meowing when the car is in motion) so I did a lot of research to find the best cat carriers for long car trips. It had the best reviews and seemed perfect to us (actually I wanted a model that could be connected to a seat belt but it was out of stock so I went for this model instead, it was good because we attach it to carabiners and thus could secure to the locks in the car). This is a fantastic cat carrier. I was expecting it to be two straps that can be joined together, but it is actually one strap with an extension that turns it into a double strap. I put it in the living room for about a week and both cats explored and slept in it. I put the hammocks up but the cats didn't like them very much so I took them down. When it came time for the big drive, we put the carrier in the back seat (we have a Jeep Cherokee and it took up the entire back seat). We provided the cats with a small bowl of water to keep them hydrated (almost no water was spilled). The cats traveled very well. The meowing cat eventually calmed down and there was just a whimpering meow accompanied by a hiss as our other cat hit him! Our cats get along well, but they don't curl up when they sleep and we were a bit worried about how they would manage to be so close together in a carrier. We planned to put up a partition, but it wasn't necessary as they mostly got along well. There is enough space for two cats to have their own space. We put treats in from time to time and stopped about every three hours to see if they wanted to use the tray (we have a travel tray). Before opening the car doors we always checked all the zippers and brought them upstairs in the trunk (I've read reports of cats opening zippers, we didn't have this problem but maybe because we were afraid of it). I understand how that could have happened). We didn't leave the tray in the carrier, just put it there when we stopped. We also put soft food on paper plates there. The best way to get around the hotel is to use a luggage trolley, as recommended by other reviewers. The carrier is heavy but can be lifted by one person depending on strength. My 12 year old son was able to lift it the short distance from the car to the luggage trolley by himself. Arrived on the baggage car, we covered it with a blanket to calm the cats. Once in the hotel room we let them go and they were quite happy. We were gone for three days. Now we're home and the stretcher is in the living room and still used as a favorite place to sleep. Highly recommended!
