Review on Kurt Adler 16-Inch Gingerbread Christmas Nutcracker: Handcrafted Wooden Delight by Mike Kies

Bad craftsmanship in The Nutcrackers

The first one I received looked used and worn. There was no circular tape in the box, but I could still see the outline of where it was, the corners were torn as if it had been opened before, the styrofoam over the head was cracked like the nutcracker was in the wrong way the box had been put back and just flattened out the head looked like someone had left a lollipop on it because it was sticky and had weird paint stains and the pieces were missing paint, chips and more. Didn't see it was non-refundable until I asked for a replacement. At first they refused to return or replace and moved me. The next rep sent me a replacement and it's almost as bad as the first one. Looks new but the paint is chipped, the nose is glued on crooked, the gingerbread plate is crooked, all the hot glue is on it, and it looks like someone stuck their finger in the white frosting on their hand before the paint was dry. I was expecting a bit of extra glue or less than perfect painting, but it's a mess. It was supposed to be a Christmas present and none of them are good enough to give away. On the plus side it's going to be a really cute nutcracker and the wood is of decent quality. There were no tears or holes. It doesn't smell like "Made in China". The box also seems to protect the Nutcracker well. I just wish I hadn't gotten stuck with duds. I managed to get some of the excess glue off, but what's left on the hair should stay in the hair.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Lots of things
